We are working towards getting an Active Schools Flag for our school. The aim of the Active Schools Flag is to encourage schools to be more active, more often. It is an initiative from the Department of Education and Skills supported by Healthy Ireland. The Active School Flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. 

Last year we put in a brand new walking track in our school grounds with the help of our wonderful parents association. It is used as an Active Walkway- the pupils use it during break times and to participate in active activities with their class. It encourages children to keep

active even if they are not involved in playing sport.

Our Active School slogan in Tynock NS is:

“ Playground leaders are on the move,
Up you get and start your groove,
Friends together ag rith, ag siúl
Go Tynock our Active School.” 

Every class gets Active homework during Active Schools Week to encourage pupils to exercise regularly. It is recommended that children exercise for 60 minutes every day.
